Planning Sets You Up for Success
I've been thinking a lot lately about the next 8 weeks.
With baby boy coming soon and maternity leave on the horizon, there are a lot of things I want to get done before he arrives. There are things to clean, organize, purchase, prepare, and plan. There are appointments to schedule, meals to think through, and a million little things that are easy to put off until the last minute.
And honestly, I know I'll feel much better going into this next season if I have a plan. Not because everything will go exactly according to plan, but because having a plan gives me a roadmap.
A plan is a place to start.
I think this applies to so many areas of life.
The holidays are coming up. Have you thought through your plans with family? Where are you traveling? What needs to be cleaned or organized before people come over? What can you do now that will make December feel a little less chaotic?
Planning doesn't mean you have to have every detail figured out. It simply means you're giving yourself a place to start.
What's your fitness plan for the next month?
I think we can approach fitness the exact same way. What is your fitness plan for the next month?
Maybe it's working out 3 days a week.
Maybe it's getting stronger and lifting heavier.
Maybe it's running farther.
Maybe it's moving without pain.
Maybe it's finally creating a consistent routine instead of constantly starting over.
Whatever your goal is, have you actually planned the roadmap to get there? Because knowing what you want is one thing. Knowing what you're going to do each week to get there is another.
How our online programming gives you a roadmap.
This is one of the reasons I love our online programming.
We don't just give you a list of workouts and send you on your way. We provide weekly workouts and a realistic schedule designed to help you work toward your goals.
Our programming is broken into monthly blocks, so you have a clear plan for the next four weeks. Instead of wondering, "What should I do today?" you already have the next step laid out for you.
Then, at the end of those four weeks, you can look back and see what you accomplished.
Maybe you lifted heavier.
Maybe you moved faster.
Maybe you finally worked out consistently three days a week.
Maybe you simply proved to yourself that you could stick to a routine.
That is progress.
Keep it simple.
A successful plan doesn't have to be complicated. It just needs to give you a clear path forward and make the next step easier to take.
So as we head into the final months of the year, take a minute to think about what you want your next month of fitness to look like.
What is your goal?
What needs to happen each week to get you there?
And do you actually have a plan in place?
Try it: a full-body superset workout
One structure that comes up a lot in our online programming is supersets.
A superset pairs two exercises together and has you alternate between them. While one muscle group is working, another gets a chance to recover. This keeps your workout moving, saves time, and keeps your heart rate up without sacrificing strength work. If you've been a patient of ours, you're probably already familiar with this format.
Give this full-body workout a try. Complete the two exercises back-to-back, then rest as needed before starting the next round.
Superset 1, 3 Rounds: 12 Dumbbell Chest Press x 12 Dumbbell Glute Bridge
Superset 2, 3 Rounds: 12 Heel-Elevated Goblet Squats x 12 Dumbbell Glute Bridge
Superset 1, 3 Rounds: 16 Alternating OVerhead Presses x 16 Alternating Reverse Lunges
